Webcast One: Monitoring and Data Sharing
This webcast discussed real-time reporting, raw water monitoring, emerging contaminants, source water protection plans, and long-term monitoring, trends, and data sharing.
Mike Focazio, with USGS, who described USGS research in source water while discussing occurrence data on a range of regulated and emerging contaminants in untreated sources of drinking water throughout the United States.
Jerry Schulte, with ORSANCO, who discussed two of ORSANCO’s program areas: the Water Users Advisory Committee, which is comprised of drinking water utility managers who meet to discuss water quality, water treatment, pollution control standards, and regulatory policies that affect water quality conditions on the Ohio River and major tributaries, and the Organics Detection System. The Water Users Advisory Committee, which is a nationally recognized program that combines the resources of ORSANCO, drinking water utilities, and industries to monitor surface waters for volatile organic compounds.
Dave Schuler, with St. Paul Regional Water Services, discussed St. Paul’s 23 year-old watershed and reservoir restoration program. He also presented a broad overview of the program highlighting the systems, partnerships, and technologies used in the watershed.
