Water Quality and Conservation

Water quality, source water protection and water conservation are core priorities for AMWA members. The association advocates for protection, preservation and cleanup of this nation’s surface water resources through control of both point and nonpoint source pollution. AMWA supports utilizing the watershed approach as the framework for bringing together all stakeholders to identify problems within a watershed and to solve water quality concerns.

To help advance its water quality protection goals, AMWA participates in the Source Water Collaborative (SWC), an organization of federal, state and local partners who come together to further the goals of protecting sources of drinking water. SWC organizations recognize that resources are extremely limited, authorities are split, and the actors who can actually protect source waters are diffuse. Each organization recognizes the synergy of coordinated actions and the need for leveraging each other’s resources in order to increase the chances for success over each entity going it alone.
