With Congress expected to begin preliminary work on crafting the next Farm Bill this year, AMWA signed a letter sent to Capitol Hill in February by a large group of more than 140 water utility, conservation, agricultural, and environmental organizations asking lawmakers to support policies that will reduce the flow of nutrients and other agricultural runoff into the nation's water bodies.
Versions of the letter were sent to all members of the House and Senate, and are intended to remind members and staff of the importance of water quality as they begin to think about policies that will shape the next Farm Bill. A copy of the letter is available online.
Congress aims to pass a Farm Bill roughly every five years to update and revise agriculture policies and programs. The last such measure was signed into law in 2008.
