The 2017 Water and Wastewater Leadership Center will be held February 26 to March 10 at Lansdowne in Leesburg, Virginia.  The annual residential executive development program is typically convened at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina (UNC).  However, in recent months a number of states, cities and counties have banned travel to North Carolina, as a result of the state’s stance on transgender bathroom use.  Currently, four states, 18 cities, the District of Columbia and three counties have enacted bans.  Attendees of the Center are frequently from many of these locations, so the sponsors arranged with UNC to conduct the program at a location outside North Carolina.

In selecting Lansdowne, which is located near Washington, D.C., UNC made every effort to maintain the unique qualities of the executive education experience provided at its Kenan-Flagler Center in Chapel Hill, and the change in venue will result in no added cost to participants.

The Leadership Center is a one-of-a-kind professional development program specifically designed to increase leadership and management skills among water and wastewater utility CEOs, general managers, senior managers and upper level management. The 11-day residential program is sponsored by AMWA and other water sector organizations to prepare and develop water and wastewater utility leaders and management executives to address the range of management challenges utilities face in today’s competitive environment.

Full information and application forms for the 2017 Leadership Center will be available in mid-September, and the application deadline is October 26.  Early application is recommended as the program can only accept 30 participants in order to ensure a high level of personal attention and networking.
