AMWA submitted brief comments to EPA’s Science Advisory Board (SAB) Drinking Water Committee regarding its draft report on partial lead service line replacement (PLSLR) effectiveness. The five comments in AMWA’s letter were specific to the clarity and/or accuracy of the technical information provided in the draft report and the internal consistencies of the report.
The Drinking Water Committee met via conference call on May 16 and in general reiterated the findings of its draft report that current science shows PLSLR have not “reliably” reduced drinking water lead levels in the short term and data are not sufficient to determine long-term effectiveness of PLSLR.
The Drinking Water Committee will send its final draft report to the entire SAB for final approval and transmission to EPA in the coming weeks. Additional information about the work of this SAB panel is online.
