Following up on the recent letters from EPA leadership to state governors and primacy agencies regarding lead in drinking water, AMWA submitted a follow-up letter to Administrator Gina McCarthy and Deputy Assistant Administrator for Water Joel Beauvais. AMWA’s letter reiterates its strong support for transparency, enforcement of existing regulations and the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) revision process to regain public trust in drinking water.

The letter also requests clarity on the Agency’s statement indicating that a “material  inventory” is required of water systems under the LCR.  As states step up the review and enforcement of existing LCR requirements, it is important that all parties – states, utilities and the public – have proper expectations for the data required and thus readily available under those requirements.

AMWA continues to look forward to working together with all parties to ensure safe, reliable public drinking water supplies.
