At AMWA’s 2019 Executive Management Conference in Newport, R.I., in October, new members of the board were introduced and elected, and a new policy on affordability was approved by the membership in attendance.

Three new members were approved by the Board of Directors to complete unexpired terms: Steve Edgemon, general manager, Fairfax Water; Ghassan Korban, executive director, Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans; and Mike Armstrong, general manager, WaterOne. Scott Dewhirst, water superintendent at Tacoma Water, was elected by the membership to a full term. AMWA officers will remain the same for the coming year: President Steve Schneider, general manager, Saint Paul Regional Water Services; Vice President Angela Licata, deputy commissioner, New York City Department of Environmental Protection; Treasurer John Entsminger, general manager, Las Vegas Valley Water District; and Secretary Kathryn Sorensen, water services director, Phoenix Water.

AMWA members also approved revisions to the association’s policy resolutions, including a new statement on drinking water affordability that expresses support for water rates that are reflective of operational and maintenance needs, but also recognizes the importance of delivering aid to low-income customers.

Presentation slides from the conference are available online. Any AMWA member needing the access password should contact AMWA’s Dan Hartnett.
