On October 13, the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) released for public comment Phase 2 of the water criteria under its Climate Bonds Standard. The proposed Phase 2 criteria are for certification of nature-based and hybrid water infrastructure investments certified under the Climate Bonds Standard. CBI also released for comment a background paper about eligibility for certification under the water criteria.
The guiding principle for the Climate Bonds Standard is that “certified assets and projects must be in line with limiting global warming to no more than 2 ̊ C” and support climate resilience not only of the asset but also the surrounding environment.
AMWA commented on the Phase I water criteria in 2016 and will work with its sustainability committee to develop comments on Phase 2. The public comment period is open until December 14, 2017. CBI also recently published a two-page introductory document to the water criteria.
