With just four weeks to go until AMWA’s 2016 Water Policy Conference – March 20-23 in Washington, D.C. – the list of speakers and topics reflects the top legislative, regulatory and financial drinking water issues of the day.

In addition to the roundtable on the Flint lead service line crisis, panel discussions are planned to highlight private and public infrastructure funding perspectives and resilience planning innovations.  From Morgan Stanley, Richard Weiss will address the tax-exempt bond market and Zachary Solomon will focus on the green bond market. The Director of EPA’s new Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center, Jim Gebhardt, will discuss the center’s role and responsibilities.  The sustainability panel will feature Jim Lochhead, CEO of Denver Water; Barry Gullet, Director of Charlotte Water, and Mark Sanchez, Executive Director of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.

In addition to top personnel on the agenda from EPA, Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation Estevan López will be on hand to discuss the Bureau’s programs affecting drinking water sources and water utilities, focusing on efforts to address the historic Western drought.

Key lawmakers in the conference lineup include House Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.); House Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) and Ranking Member Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.); Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) of the House Energy and Commerce Committee; and Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.), who represents the city of Flint.

Leading off the program will be noted political analyst Stuart Rothenberg, who will handicap the chances of the candidates for President and provide insider views on hotly debated issues.  Jason Samenow, Weather Editor at The Washington Post, will introduce intriguing trends in recently observed extreme events.

The conference will be held at the Washington Court Hotel, within short walking distance of Capitol Hill for meetings with elected representatives.
