Last week EPA announced an October 14-15 public meeting to spur discussion on possible revisions to multiple National Primary Drinking Water Rules: Stage 1 and Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rules; Surface Water Treatment Rule; Interim Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule; and Long Term 1 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule. Collectively these rules are known as the Microbial and Disinfection Byproducts Rules.

Staff from both EPA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will provide overviews and agency perspectives regarding the rules. Multiple panels will then discuss viewpoints on both microbial contaminants and disinfection byproducts, as well as opportunities to address both issues in drinking water. Panelists include AMWA members East Bay Municipal Utility District and Philadelphia Water Department, along with representatives from state agencies, academia and research, and environmental groups. Registration is open to the public and available online, along with a preliminary agenda. Those who are interested must register by October 12.
