Republicans in the House of Representatives in late February finalized their roster for the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, a special panel that will convene hearings focused on global climate change. Democrats had unveiled their committee members earlier in the month.

Created by the new Democratic majority at the start of the 116th Congress, the Climate Crisis Committee will “investigate, study, make findings, and develop recommendations on policies, strategies, and innovations to achieve substantial and permanent reductions in pollution and other activities that contribute to the climate crisis.” The committee will have the power to organize hearings on this topic, but may not mark-up legislation or subpoena witnesses.

Republicans named Rep. Garret Graves (La.) as the panel’s ranking member. He will be joined by Republicans Morgan Griffith (Va.), Gary Palmer (Ala.), Buddy Carter (Ga.), Carol Miller (W.Va.), and Kelly Armstrong (N.D.).

Earlier in February Democratic leaders had named Rep. Kathy Castor (Fla.) as the panel’s chairman. The committee’s other Democratic members are Ben Ray Luján (N.M.), Suzanne Bonamici (Ore.), Julia Brownley (Calif.), Sean Casten (Ill.), Jared Huffman (Calif.), Mike Levin (Calif.), Donald McEachin (Va.), and Joe Neguse (Colo.).|

The committee has not announced when it will hold its first hearing.
