On January 10th, AMWA teamed with a diverse coalition of 22 other national public health, water utility, environmental labor, consumer, housing, and state and local governmental organizations to publicly launch the Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) Collaborative and release an online toolkit designed to help communities across the U.S. accelerate the removal of lead service lines. The collaborative identifies and provides resources to assist in the development of a voluntary, community-based process for implementing a lead service line replacement program. It does not advocate for specific regulatory or legislative changes related to lead in drinking water, but rather provides options for proactive engagement specific to lead service line removal.

The Collaborative’s toolkit includes: a roadmap for getting started; suggested practices to identify and remove lead service lines in a safe, equitable and cost-effective manner; policies that federal and state leaders could adopt to support local efforts; and links to additional resources that may be helpful when developing local programs. With the rollout of the toolkit, the Collaborative will initiate further outreach to engage communities in the removal process and will update resources based on the latest available experiences and research.
