Mayors from around the world announced their support for a Global Green New Deal and described the climate change as “a global climate emergency” in a press release following the C40 Cities Global Mayors Summit in Copenhagen. The mayors emphasized that they “are committed to keeping global heating below the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement” and “putting climate action at the center of all urban decision-making.” The release also included expressions of support from the mayors of Chicago, Portland, Austin, Seattle, New York City,  and Philadelphia, as well their counterparts on other continents.
