The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently launched a new Soil Moisture Active Passive satellite (SMAP) into low-earth orbit to measure the Earth’s soil moisture more accurately. The satellite will map the entire globe every two to three days for three years to provide what is being described as the “highest-resolution maps of soil moisture ever obtained.” Additional information about NASA’s SMAP program is available online.
