On March 21, President Obama released a memorandum directing the heads of executive departments and agencies to build capabilities within the government for long-term drought resilience. The memorandum makes permanent the National Drought Resilience Partnership (NDRP) and outlines six goals and objectives to be accomplished through coordination and planning activities among the NDRP members. The goals outlined in the memorandum are: data collection and integration; communicating drought risk to critical infrastructure; drought planning and capacity building; coordination of federal drought activity; market-based approaches for infrastructure and efficiency; and innovative water use, efficiency and technology.

Each goal and objective includes several implementation actions led by one or more agencies.  Additional details about the objectives and implementation activities to achieve these goals in FY 2016-2017 are available in the Federal Action Plan of the National Drought Resilience Partnership.
