In preparation for the next Administration, the federal Water Resources and Climate Change Workgroup released a November 2016 update to the National Action Plan, "Looking Forward: Priorities for Managing Freshwater Resources in a Changing Climate." The update is the second this year. The previous update was released in May. In this latest update, the federal agencies reaffirm the importance of continuing to improve the nation’s resilience to extreme weather events and other climate change impacts on water resources. The update also addresses the objectives of an October 2016 White House Report, Opportunities to Enhance the Nation’s Resilience to Climate Change. The report provides recommendations and specific actions in three key areas that the workgroup member agencies will focus on over the next several years. The three areas are: data and research; planning and decision support; and training and outreach. In addition, the report reiterates the importance for the dozen federal agencies engaged in the workgroup to work together to “leverage resources, find synergies and develop consistency.” The workgroup also plans to expand communication and collaboration with other stakeholders.
