While much has been said and written about pathways to sustainability, many AMWA members are already well on their way down those paths.  Learn first-hand about successful sustainability practices underway at peer water systems and real-world approaches to critical management challenges often overlooked in the pursuit of sustainability.

AMWA’s 2014 Executive Management Conference offers the leading-edge thinking and lessons learned from water utility executives and acknowledged industry experts on a range of sustainable management topics.  The Monday program includes: “Employee Engagement: Building the Workforce of the Future,” Hannah Ubl, Bridgeworks; “Developing Trusted Community Messages,” Karen Raucher, Stratus Consulting and Doug Yoder, Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department; and “Community-Based Water Planning,” Jim Lochhead, Denver Water, and Juliet Ellis, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Topics on the Tuesday morning agenda include: “Water and Power: Supply Stresses and Energy Choices,” Kristin Averyt, University of Colorado and NOAA Western Water Assessment; “Diversification in a Water-Constrained World,” Michael Markus, Orange County Water District, and Stan Williams, Poseidon Water; “Improving Efficiency to Increase Water Supply,” James McDaniel, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; “Letting the Water In: Innovations in Urban Redesign,” Doug Owen, Arcadis; and “Extreme Cold: A New Benchmark,” Carrie Lewis, Milwaukee Water Works. 

On the Tuesday afternoon program: “Leading-Edge Infrastructure Financing with Green Century Bonds,” George Hawkins, DC Water; and “New Thinking about Rates, Costs, Consumer Demand and the Benefits of Regional Partnerships and Strategies,” Chuck Clarke, Cascade Water Alliance, Ray Hoffman, Seattle Public Utilities, and Linda McCrea, Tacoma Water.
