A better understanding of the interdependent nature of energy, water and food will help American businesses create operations that are more resilient to shortages of these resources, according to a recent report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  In “The Energy-Water-Food Nexus: Insights for the Business Community,” the foundation provided guidance on how businesses can be more resilient to shortages:

  • survey and collect data on the resources the company depends upon for its operations;
  • address risks and opportunities to ascertain how a corporation’s resource consumption affects its operations;
  • implement technologies to mitigate risks;
  • collaborate with stakeholders to address shared risks; and
  • spread sustainability values along the supply chain.
