EPA announced May 1 that it is awarding $3.9 million via grants to two universities, Colorado School of Mines and Oregon State University. These grants will support research studying the fate, transport, bioaccumulation, and exposure of PFAS in PFAS impacted communities, as well as studying the toxicity of the various substances to identify toxic PFAS that require prioritization for risk management. The funded projects will run through April 2022.

“These grants will help fulfill a key goal in EPA’s PFAS Action Plan: strengthening science and research in order to better understand the characteristics and impacts of PFAS,” said EPA Administrator Wheeler. “This funding will also help researchers develop new strategies to further protect our communities and environment from harmful PFAS exposure.”

The agency’s PFAS Action Plan was released in February of this year.
