A new study from Xylem Inc. found 77 percent of Americans are concerned about the state of U.S. water infrastructure and 62 percent are willing to pay more to fix it. However, few Americans are aware of their own water consumption or the extent to which water infrastructure problems would impact them personally. The Value of Water Index, a nationwide telephone poll of more than 1,250 American voters, also found:
- 88 percent believe U.S. water infrastructure needs reform;
- nearly 90 percent reported having personally felt the impact of water shortages and contamination; and
- 61 percent are willing to pay a little more each month to upgrade water infrastructure (Americans are willing to pay an average of $7.70 more per month).
