The US Water Alliance has issued guiding principles and a briefing paper on consolidation of water utilities “designed to advance productive, fact-based discussion on utility consolidation.” The resources were developed from an Alliance leadership dialogue on Utility Strengthening Through Consolidation that brought together water executives, community leaders, and policymakers. The cross-sector discussion explored the role consolidation can play in helping water sector utilities and their communities address existing and anticipated challenges, the benefits consolidation can provide, and the barriers hindering the rate and scope of consolidation in the nation’s water sector.
