On May 5, the White House named Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome as senior director of environmental justice. “Jalonne’s ability to listen deeply, bring people together, and find creative solutions will be invaluable as we work to deliver on President Biden’s promise of environmental justice for all,” said CEQ Chair Brenda Mallory. In a tweet on Friday, AMWA congratulated Dr. White-Newsome on her new role.

In 2019, while senior program officer at the Kresge Foundation, Dr. White-Newsome presented a webinar on climate equity for AMWA members. The presentation recording is available on AMWA’s website. At Kresge, Dr. White-Newsome created the first, national grantmaking initiative at the intersection of climate change and water inequity, the Climate Resilience and Equitable Water Systems Initiative.
