The White House is seeking public input on next steps for the U.S. National Climate Assessment (NCA). Developed by a federal advisory committee under the auspices of the U.S. Global Change Research Program, the latest iteration of the National Climate Assessment was released in 2014 with an eye toward ensuring an ongoing, “sustained assessment process” in the years between the release and the next formal assessment report. The sustained assessment process enables the government to deliver timely information and tools to support climate resilience and also is aimed at fostering the capacity building to allow state, local and tribal organizations to become more climate resilient.

The U.S. Global Change Research Program Comments requests comment on three items by June 15, 2015:

  1. What scientific information on climate change, impacts and responses would be of most value to inform future assessment activities;

  2. How the government can effectively communicate climate change assessment information; and

  3. What mechanisms could be used to more effectively connect to other assessment-related efforts.

AMWA will develop comments with the assistance of the Sustainability Committee.  Any member who wishes to send in comments to be considered for AMWA’s submission is encouraged to e-mail them to Erica Brown by COB on Tuesday, June 9.
