Eleven AMWA member utilities and a water security pioneer were honored at the Annual Meeting. Six systems received Platinum Awards for Utility Excellence, five were presented Gold Awards for Exceptional Utility Performance and Marcis Kempe of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) received the 2013 Donald R. Boyd Award.

The Gold and Platinum Awards recognize outstanding achievement in implementing the nationally recognized Attributes of Effective Utility Management. Winners of the 2013 AMWA Platinum Awards for Utility Excellence are: City of Columbus Department of Public Utilities, Louisville Water Company, Onondaga County Water Authority, City of Palm Bay Utilities Department, San Diego County Water Authority and Western Virginia Water Authority.

AMWA's 2013 Gold Awards for Exceptional Utility Performance were presented to: Beaver Water District, City of Dayton Water Department, City of Mesa Water Resources Department, City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department and City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities.

In recognizing Marcis Kempe with its 2013 Donald R. Boyd Award, AMWA honored his extraordinary service to the drinking water field. A leader of vulnerability assessments and post-9/11 security improvement at MWRA, Kempe was also one of the founding members of Massachusetts WARN.
