Water executives from AMWA’s Utility Management Committee provided their reviews and recommendations to update the fifth iteration of the Utility Financial Information (UFI) survey, which will be launched shortly after Labor Day. The survey will gather the latest input for AMWA’s unique database of detailed financial information from the nation’s largest public drinking water systems.

In addition to providing a wealth of intelligence on rates, revenue sources and expense categories, the database is becoming an ever more robust resource for tracking trends over time in these parameters. The availability of relevant comparative data from peer water utilities helps managers better understand cost drivers, identify different alternatives for funding these costs, and access analogous information for presentations that put financial needs into context.

In September, all AMWA member utilities will receive a survey form. Those that completed the survey in past years will receive a form prepopulated with their most recent responses, so they will only need to update information that has changed. Survey contractor Raftelis Financial Consultants will compile the results and analyze the data. The database and general analyses will be available to members in January 2017, and a webinar covering the results and practical uses for the data will be scheduled for February.
