Last week, AMWA emphasized the importance of using screening tools that operate at a practical scale for water utilities in comments to EPA’s Science Advisory Board (SAB) on its consultation on the proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) environmental justice considerations. SAB will be providing feedback to EPA on the best metrics, indicators, and screening tools to include in environmental justice analyses in the LCRI.

SAB announced it will meet on November 3 and 4 from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. ET to address a number of ongoing EPA initiatives, including a consultation with EPA on environmental justice analyses for the LCRI.

Separately, EPA will hold two identical public meetings to discuss and solicit input on environmental justice considerations related to the development of the proposed LCRI national primary drinking water regulation. A virtual meeting was held on October 25, and a second will be held on November 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET. Registration for the event is required. Individuals interested in speaking can sign-up to make brief verbal remarks as a part of their registration. Public written comments will also be accepted through November 15. AMWA will provide written comments.
