While EPA will suffer a slight funding cut in 2012, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will see its funding allocation rise modestly this fiscal year.
Under the omnibus spending bill recently signed into law, the Army Corps of Engineers is slated to receive $5 billion, an increase of $145 million above its 2011 level and $429 million above President Obama’s budget request. Within this total, $1.8 billion is reserved for navigation projects and studies while $1.66 billion will go toward flood and coastal storm damage reduction – including $437 million for critical dam safety improvements.
