Bottled water will be more popular than soda for the first time in the U.S. this year, according to Nestle Waters, Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc. and Dr Pepper Snapple Group, the country’s largest bottled water companies.  Spokespersons for the companies say Americans have switched from carbonated beverages because bottled water products are both portable and calorie-free.  But they suggest that decaying pipes at the nation’s water systems, and the high profile lead contamination of Flint, Michigan’s drinking water, are also expected to boost bottled water sales.  Most soda makers are not hurt by the ascendance of bottled water as many of them produce both.
