The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Cyber and Infrastructure Analysis (OCIA) has released a reference guide on wildland fires and potential impacts to U.S. critical infrastructure. Among its key findings, above normal potential for fires will expand in the Southwest, Great Basin, and lower elevations in California during May through August 2016; wildland fires are cyclical; the most vulnerable sectors include energy, water and wastewater systems; and economic impacts consist largely of residential and commercial property losses. The reference guide contains additional details mapped out to geographic areas and by critical infrastructure sector.
