The U.S. Department of Energy and the University of California released a report in June entitled “Capturing the Benefits of Integrated Resource Management for Water & Electric Utilities and Their Partners.” The report outlines a strategic vision and accompanying solutions to address key challenges: reducing green house gas emissions of the combined water-energy system; effectively addressing water and energy system resilience (handling drought in the water sector, and handling water resource variability and availability in the energy sector); and increasing the water delivered per unit of energy and energy delivered per unit of water used.
