An October 21 Federal Register notice announced the availability of a draft EPA literature review of potential technologies to address Legionella concerns in building premise plumbing systems. “Technologies for Legionella Control: Scientific Literature Review,” was developed “to characterize the current state of knowledge regarding the use and effectiveness of available control technologies and approaches that can be used to address Legionella public health concerns in building water systems.” The technologies profiled in the peer review are targeted at building piping systems - cooling towers are not addressed.

Although the document is non-regulatory and not targeted at drinking water utilities and their operations, it could serve as a valuable resource for utilities to use in outreach to buildings in their communities that may be prone Legionella issues.
