On March 30, EPA released the latest in updated materials focused on lead in drinking water.  “Optimal Corrosion Control Treatment Evaluation Technical Recommendations for Primacy Agencies and Public Water Systems” provides updated guidance on optimal corrosion control treatment (OCCT) based on the latest available research and recent experiences in Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) implementation. According to an EPA statement released along with the new document, “[it] addresses the technical complexities of evaluating and optimizing CCT, including establishment of optimal water quality parameters in a manner that maximizes the level of public health protection. It also builds upon previous EPA guidance by including new research findings and experience with rule implementation.” The document is sure to be referenced by state and EPA regulators as they move forward on enhanced evaluations of water system compliance with existing LCR requirements in the coming months.
