Plans are underway for the second annual “Imagine a Day without Water.”  On September 15, water systems and allied organizations nationwide will participate in a day of advocacy, organized by the Value of Water Coalition, to educate and engage the public and stakeholders about how water is essential, invaluable and needs investment.

Utilities can sign up to join the 2016 advocacy day on the campaign website. Organizing support and resources are available online, including a messaging framework, logos and sample op-eds, proclamations and press releases.  Ideas for events, as well as social media content and graphics, will also be posted.  The Coalition will hold webinars later in the summer to help participants with planning and implementing their activities.

In 2015, 185 organizations joined together through Imagine a Day without Water to communicate the importance of safe, reliable water infrastructure. Water agencies and city departments partnered with schools, aquariums and businesses.  At press conferences in Atlanta and Los Angeles, mayors addressed the critical nature of water security and discussed projects underway to create a more secure water future for residents.

Across the country, cities and states signed resolutions and proclamations to value water.  Value of Water Coalition members participated in a radio tour that reached more than 2.8 million listeners through more than 400 airplays of interviews. Several organizations wrote press releases, blogs and opinion pieces.  Altogether, participants generated more than six million impressions on social media.
