A recent report by the Nature Conservancy's California Program highlights nine case studies of green infrastructure projects in California. The report, "Reducing Climate Risks with Natural Infrastructure," also summarizes five lessons learned where green infrastructure “done right and under the right conditions” can work as effectively as "gray" infrastructure at protecting communities from sea level rise and extreme events. The report recommends that: green infrastructure project proponents conduct rigorous economic analyses on projects; state and federal agencies consider green infrastructure alternatives for all coastal an flood protection processes; researchers pursue projects to better understand tradeoffs involved in implementing green infrastructure strategies; and local planners consider green infrastructure when feasible in climate adaptation planning.
