The Future Health Foundation, a new non-profit health advocacy organization, has launched “Toxin Alert,” an interactive website intended to allow easier public access to drinking water analytical data. The site’s stated goal is “to bring digital health information to the public and media, and improve transparency of government and private data for the public [with a target] to directly save at least 1 million IQ points of children by preventing the drinking of lead contaminated water.”

The website allows mapping and analysis of data from multiple sources, including EPA, USGS, CDC and state primacy agencies. In addition to these traditional data sources, the website also allows citizen submission of data analyzed by certified laboratories. Based on the data collected, alerts and other reports and notifications will be available to inform local action.

The website has received significant early press, and this may lead to additional public and media inquiries to drinking water utilities.
