During a visit to California in early February, President Obama announced a $1 billion budget proposal for a "Climate Resilience Fund." Specifically, the funding would be used for climate change research to improve understanding of climate impacts, innovative technologies for resilient infrastructure and helping local communities address climate change effects including taking risk reduction measures.

In testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee describing government efforts to support the nation’s climate preparedness, Office of Science and AMWA’s Sustainability & Security Report Technology Policy Director Dr. John Holdren said the request will be in the 2015 budget proposal because "the President believes that the Federal Government must do more to help communities across the county become more resilient to the effects of climate change."
