The U.S. EPA announced the availability of a new guide, entitled Flood Resilience: A Basic Guide for Water and Wastewater Utilities. The guide is intended to help drinking water and wastewater utilities become more resilient to flooding. Targeted to small and medium utilities, the guide helps users examine the threat of flooding, determine impacts to assets, and identify cost-effective mitigation options. The approach used in the guide was successfully tested during a pilot project at the Berwick Water Department in Maine. The guide includes a user-friendly layout, embedded videos, and flood maps to help guide utilities through the process.
