Water utilities across the U.S. are beginning to plan their participation in Imagine a Day Without Water, a campaign organized by the Value of Water Coalition to provide an opportunity for all who care about safe, reliable water and the water infrastructure that brings it to homes and businesses. Scheduled for October 6 – 8, 2015, it will include a nation-wide series of events, policy resolutions, social media campaigns and other activities with the goal of educating and engaging the public and stakeholders about how water is essential, invaluable and needs investment.

What can you do to support the campaign? The Coalition is encouraging utilities to participate through local activities that will work best in their communities and provides a list of suggestions, including:

  • a “Value of Water” proclamation from the mayor or other public official;
  • an op-ed to the local newspaper;
  • using social media channels to engage customers and the public;
  • partnering with local schools, fire stations or community centers to celebrate water; or
  • conducting facility tours or other on-site events.

Utilities can formally sign up to join the effort on the campaign website.  Organizing support and resources will be available through the website, including a national social media campaign participants can plug into; creative content for print and outdoor advertisements, bill stuffers, banners and more; sample op-eds, proclamations, talking points and social media content; and ideas for other events.
