WaterISAC on July 31 published a new edition of its bi-annual Threat Analysis for the Water Sector. The document looks at incidents and suspicious activity reported to WaterISAC by water and wastewater utilities from January through June 2013. The report also provides an overview of the threat environment in the water sector.
WaterISAC received 334 reports of physical and cyber intrusion, theft, sabotage, vandalism and suspicious encounters. Utilities also reported 117 thwarted incidents.
For the first time WaterISAC used a survey, conducted through its secure online portal, to collect data and member input that informed the analysis. The result is a more robust data set and a detailed look at the security challenges facing the sector.
