WaterISAC this month published its latest Threat Analysis for the Water Sector, a summary and analysis of threats and incidents in the water sector during the second half of 2015. The findings in this report were based, in part, on survey responses and incident reports from water and wastewater utility members of WaterISAC.

The survey asked members about the types of incidents that had occurred at facilities as well as members' perceptions of their greatest threats and security needs. The analysis was augmented with open source information; intelligence from federal, state and local governments and law enforcement agencies; other information sharing and analysis centers; and private security firms.

The report notes that 28 percent of respondents reported at least one physical security incident, while 9 percent reported a cybersecurity incident.  The topmost threats of concern to water sector utilities were natural disasters.  The top threat actors of concern were common criminals.

The report is available on the WaterISAC portal or by contacting AMWA’s Michael Arceneaux.
