A busy week is on tap in the House of Representatives, where votes will be held on the FY17 Energy and Water appropriations bill as well as on a bipartisan deal to reauthorize the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).  The deal, which House and Senate lawmakers reached last week, will empower EPA to prevent new chemicals from entering the market if they have not been determined to be safe for their intended use.  The agency will also be able to require manufacturers to provide health and safety data for new chemicals.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is expected to unveil its version of Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) legislation this week.  The House measure is expected to be less comprehensive than the Senate’s version, which includes drinking water infrastructure funding and emergency assistance for Flint, Michigan.

In the Senate, a final vote is possible on the FY17 defense authorization bill and a measure to reauthorize nationwide notification and registration standards for convicted sex offenders.
