The Senate this week will debate the “American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act,” legislation that would require the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to conduct enhanced background checks for Iraqi and Syrian refugees before they can be admitted to the United States. The House of Representatives approved the bill in November.
This week the House of Representatives is on recess and is scheduled to return to Washington on January 25.
