The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is reportedly planning to hold a mid-January hearing on President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. According to reports, the hearing will likely feature testimony from EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy in what will be her first appearance before the panel as administrator.

Announced by President Obama during the summer, the Climate Action Plan proposes a series of efforts to reduce U.S. carbon emissions, prepare the U.S. for climate change impacts and lead international efforts to fight climate change. The plan does not require congressional approval, but Senate GOP lawmakers have requested an opportunity to question the Obama Administration on the proposal.

Among the plan’s components is a direction for EPA to “integrate considerations of climate change impacts and adaptive measures into … its Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds.”

McCarthy last testified before the Environment and Public Works Committee in April, when the panel was considering her nomination to serve as EPA administrator.
