More than 150 water utility executives and industry leaders are in St. Petersburg, Florida this week for AMWA’s 2013 Annual Meeting. In his keynote address, Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy of the University of South Florida will discuss “Innovation in Urban Water Infrastructure.” Then water system managers from Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati and Southern Nevada will share insights on “Enhanced Employee Engagement.”
“The Utility GM of the Future” leads off the Monday afternoon agenda, followed by a first look at EPA’s upcoming sustainability resource in a presentation on “The Roadmap of Effective Practices: Next Steps for Effective Utility Management.”
The Tuesday program begins with new research findings on “Consumer Attitudes About the Value of Water” and an electronic Consumer Confidence Report case study, “Taking a Byteout of the CCR: Pinellas County’s Journey through Electronic Delivery.” “Defining a Resilient Business Model for Water Utilities” will feature a WaterRF project to help utilities resolve revenue gaps, along with utility experiences shared by water executives from Raleigh, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Tampa Bay Water. A session on “Smart Technology: Assessing System-Wide Deployment” will cover trends, opportunities and benefits of smart technology.
Tuesday afternoon’s panel on “Infrastructure Resilience and Renewal in Response to Extreme Events” will feature presentations from New Orleans, Miami and Fort Collins. The program concludes with a large group discussion reflecting on all the meeting presentations to help shape AMWA’s priorities for sustainability, innovation and climate change.
