House and Senate lawmakers are expected to vote on a stopgap continuing resolution (CR) early this week to keep the government operating after Wednesday, when current spending authority expires. The new CR is expected to last for only a few days, as congressional leaders say they are close to a deal on an omnibus appropriations bill to cover the remainder of FY14.

This week the Senate is also expected to hold a final vote on legislation to extend expired long-term unemployment benefits.
