The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would suffer a 2 percent funding cut next year under legislation approved by a House Appropriations subcommittee last week, though the agency’s funding level would be $50 million above the amount proposed by President Obama.
As part of the draft FY14 Energy and Water appropriations bill, the Army Corps would receive $4.9 billion next year. This total includes $2 billion for navigation projects and studies and $1.4 billion for flood and storm damage reduction activities. Other sections of the bill provide $965 million for the Bureau of Reclamation. This is $104 million below its FY13 level and $85 million below President Obama’s request.
The full text of the draft bill, which still must win approval from the full House Appropriations Committee, is available online.
