In a May 31 Federal Register notice, EPA issued expedited approvals for 84 additional analytical methods for determining compliance with national primary drinking water regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Use of the new methods is not mandatory but provides stakeholders with “greater flexibility in the selection of analytical methods, thereby reducing monitoring costs while maintaining public health protection.” Additional information regarding drinking water analytical methods and the process governing expedited approvals of new methods is available at EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act Analytical Methods and Laboratory Certification webpage.
