“AMWA and its member drinking water systems across the country share EPA's commitment to the science-based processes established under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) for identifying, monitoring, and regulating contaminants that may pose risks to public health. The Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) is an integral part of that framework, helping to collect nationwide data on the occurrence and concentrations of contaminants not currently subject to SDWA regulation.
“By generating nationally representative data on the occurrence and concentration of unregulated contaminants in drinking water, the UCMR provides EPA with the information necessary to better understand potential public health risks and inform future regulatory decisions. This is a critical aspect of SDWA’s regulatory process.
“AMWA continues to support EPA's goal of protecting people from potentially harmful levels of PFAS and other constituents in drinking water, and recognizes the importance of continued monitoring to improve understanding of the occurrence and distribution of additional PFAS in drinking water sources nationwide.
“AMWA supports EPA’s efforts to engage stakeholders through the release of the draft sixth UCMR. The Association looks forward to closely reviewing the full list of contaminants and associated analytical methods in the proposal, and welcomes the opportunity to provide robust comments to the Agency as it begins the next five-year UCMR cycle.”
