A Pivotal Year for Politics and Policy
Charlie Cook, editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report, will be the keynote speaker at AMWA’s 2012 Water Policy Conference, March 18-21 in Washington, D.C. Called “the Picasso of election analysis” by the Wall Street Journal, Cook will bring his unique commentary on upcoming elections and perspectives on the broad policy implications of election results.
Speakers from Capitol Hill will include Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Reps. Gene Green (D-Tex.), Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) and Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.). Other top-ranking Senate and House members are also invited.
Administration speakers include White House Senior Director of Resilience Policy Richard Reed, discussing government continuity following disasters, EPA’s Acting Administrator for Water Nancy Stoner, who will address the agency’s efforts to communicate the value of water and Office of Drinking Water and Groundwater Director Cynthia Dougherty, who will give an overview of EPA’s current regulatory priorities. Senior officials from the Department of Homeland Security will also be on hand.
Greg DiLoreto, President-Elect of the American Society of Civil Engineers and CEO of Tualatin Valley Water District, and Al Martinez-Fonts Jr., Executive Vice President of the U.S. Forum for Policy Innovation at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will take a look at the nation’s infrastructure challenges and how utilities and communities are responding.
