On May 8, AMWA submitted comments to EPA addressing proposed changes to the Accidental Release Prevention Requirements: Risk Management Programs Under the Clean Air Act rule. The RMP rule is designed to prevent accidental offsite releases of hazardous chemicals and is most commonly triggered by the use of gaseous chlorine and ammonia in drinking water systems. AMWA’s comments reiterated the Association’s opposition to any requirement for water systems to conduct a Safer Technologies and Alternatives Analysis, raise concerns about the risks of public access to RMP information, and express support for aspects of the proposal that would reduce regulatory burden, including the removal of mandatory third-party audit requirements.
